Data Recovery - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to find my deleted data in the Advanced Search results?

Question: What is the best way to find my deleted data in the Advanced Search results?

Answer: Almost all files (in NTFS) may change their primary location after the Delete operation completes. The reason for it is the lost connection with parent ID attribute. After the scanning process the deleted files can be found in the !!!Deleted Extra!!! folder and !!!Advanced Extra!!! folder (after Advanced Scan).

After a scan is complete, search for files and folders .The best way to find your data is using the Search Bar, located at the top of Explorer's File View in Active@ Undelete program.

You can try Advanced Search to narrow you search results.

Advanced Search is using to specify different types of searching criteria, such as:

  • Registered File type
  • File Date
  • File Size and
  • File Attribute

"Find what: " field is used to enter text, along with wildcards or expressions that represent patterns to quickly locate a file.
Use the same type of search pattern that you use when searching for files or folders in Windows.
The asterisk symbol ( * ) in a pattern means that at this place can be zero or any number of any type of symbol.

Examples:

	        * - all files on the drive or in the folder
*.TXT - all files with "TXT" extension
My*.* - all files starting with "My"
MyFile.txt - search for the file named "MyFile.txt"

The Search Options group Advanced Settings provides many standard search options to help you increase the accuracy of your search. A description of the options follows:

Look in: Select the drives or folders to search from a drop-down list of pre-defined scopes.
File Type: This list contains file extensions and icons for the applications associated with them. If no extensions are listed, all files in the directories listed in the Look in drop-down list are searched.
Recursive Search in subdirectories: Search includes root directory and all subfolders. Clear this check box to search only the root directory of the drive.
Case Sensitive Search Search: reports only files or folders that match the combination of uppercase and lowercase characters in the Find what box.
Search Among Deleted Only: The search is performed for deleted files and folders only. All existing files are ignored.
Search Among Existing Only: The search will be applied only to existing files and only and all deleted files are ignored.
